Having your first child should be an amazing event in your life.  Having mine was a very scary moment I would like to share with you.

I was in the delivery room ready to have my first child. I was almost ten months pregnant because this girl would not want to come out. I had been in labor for more than 24 hours and I was ready for this to be over.

It was time to push.  This is the moment that we were all waiting for. I began to push and after several pushes I felt like a gush of water came out of me. The doctor screams, “Stop, don’t push”. I was so confused.  They had been telling me to push the whole time when the contractions where high and the doctor stopped me.  I had no idea what was happening.  I just remember being in a lot of pain and my baby was born but the room was silent.  I see my husband and my mother in law’s concerned face.  I can tell that there was something wrong but no one is talking. Then the doctor took my baby away from their eyesight.

It felt like eternity not knowing what was happening. The nurse kept making me push and she was pushing on my stomach trying to push the placenta out of me. Within minutes, I hear a baby cry. They laid her down next to me in a see-through crib.  They had placed a tiny little mask over her face, trying to give her oxygen.  All I could see was her little hands trying to take off the mask. The nurse had to supervise her because she kept trying to take off the mask.  I remember the nurse saying that she was a little fighter.

Later, I learned that the reason why the doctor told me to not push anymore was because the umbilical cord was chocking her.  It was wrapped around her neck several times. She had a purple color when she came out and the umbilical was very tight around her neck. She was not breathing when I had her.  My husband was supposed to cut the umbilical but due to the situation he was unable to perform that special moment. Everything didn’t come out the way we had planned but at the end my daughter survived.
